Tuesday 15 November: President Juncker takes part in Citizens' Dialogue in St. Vith, Belgium

The news:

On Tuesday 15 November at 19:00, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker together with the Minister-President of the German-speaking Community of Belgium Oliver Paasch, will take part in a Citizens' Dialogue in the Eastern Belgian town of St. Vith. Hundreds of citizens will get the chance to make their voice heard and discuss about the European Union. Registration for the event can be submitted online.

The background:

The concept of Citizens' Dialogues builds on the model of "town hall meetings" or local fora during which politicians listen and debate with citizens about policies and decisions being taken. The Members of the European Commission, including the President, regularly attend Citizens' Dialogues, which take place across the EU and occasionally also in third countries.

Since the beginning of the mandate of the Juncker Commission in November 2014, almost 100 town hall events in 27 Member States have brought together European Commission Members and numerous European Parliamentarians, national and local politicians. On 21 September, a first transatlantic Citizens' Dialogue on tax avoidance and privacy in the digital age was held simultaneously in New York and Milan, hosting the EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager, Economics Nobel laureate professor Joseph E. Stiglitz and former EU Commissioner and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti. A list of upcoming Citizens' Dialogues can be found online: http://ec.europa.eu/citizens-dialogues/.
