Jennifer Baker is joined by Marietje Schaake MEP, member of the ALDE Group and European Parliament Rapporteur of the first Digital Freedom Strategy in EU foreign policy, to discuss Net Neutrality in the European Union.

Marietje Schaake explains the Netherlands is the only country in the EU - the second one in the world followed by Chile - that has secured net neutrality by law and believes this is a guarantee of competition in the digital era - not overregulation.

The MEP wants to guarantee net neutrality by law because she believes transparency and competition are not working as expected.

“We so far relied on the principle of transparency: telecom operators needing to share what their practices are.”
