De Europese Commissie benoemt hoofd van vertegenwoordiging in Praag (en)

Jan Michal will take office as the new Head of Representation in Prague on 1 September 2010.

Mr. Michal, currently an advisor at the Commission's Secretariat-General, joined the Commission in 2009. He was responsible for relations with the Council and played a significant role in coordinating the Commission’s positions for the G8/G20.

He has an extensive background in political and social sciences as well as international business and economics. He gained significant international experience after studying in the United States, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

Mr. Michal’s background at the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in various international organisations will help the Prague Representation play a key role in communicating with Czech citizens, civil society and the media, as well as strengthening relations between the Commission and national or regional authorities.

Coming straight from the influential Secretariat-General, which has a horizontal overview of all Commission policies, Mr. Michal has high-level contacts and a profound knowledge of all Union policies. This makes him very well placed to serve the Commission in Prague.

Background:

The Commission has Representations in all EU Member States. They represent the Commission in the Member State, inform the media and public about its policies and report to the Commission on significant developments in the country.

Mr. Michal is one of the seven Heads of Representations who were appointed today by the Commission. For an overview of the appointment procedure and a list of all seven names, see IP/10/929.
