EESC plenary sessiontoadopt

`A Programme for Europe: proposals of civil society'

for submission to the next Parliament and Commission

The plenary session on 24/25 March 2009, chaired by president Mario Sepi,will adopt a resolution entitled `A Programme for Europe: proposals of civil society'. The document sets out the EESC's vision of Europe and recommendations to the next European Parliament and European Commission. The EESC will also adopt opinions on the economic crisis, with specific emphasis on national recovery plans and globalisation.

A Programme for Europe - proposals of civil society

For the first time in its history, the EESC is to adopt a comprehensive, detailed and timely document on the ongoing political debate and the urgent, concrete problems facing Europe. The document will address: a) the need for economic and social recovery, b) the European elections. By merging the main recommendations contained in its opinions on four major topics, the Committee presents the institutions with a consolidated set of measures and actions which Europe must undertake in order to support progress-oriented and sustainable recovery.

Economic recovery

The EESC will adopt two key opinions linked to the economic crisis. The first one updates the January opinion on the Commission's proposal for a European Economic recovery plan (see press release 9/2009);this issue was also discussed at the EESC's 17 March conference on the economic recovery plans (see press release 31/2009). The second opinion deals with the EU's Globalisation Adjustment fund.
